Last night I saw HOLLYWOOD ENDING by Woody Allen at Fall Creek Pictures. As much as I wanted to like it... I left the theater and the best I could say about it was, "Well, it was OK." I couldn't suspend reality long enough to believe that Debra Messing OR Tea Leoni would be romantically interested in Woody Allen. The chemistry was...mmmm... non-existant. Woody is super neurotic which SOMETIMES tips the scale towards charming and funny, but only a few times. A couple of chuckles, but no real laughs. And of course Fall Creek Cinema is always a trip. The film was shown in theater #3, which is about the size of my living room with awkwardly placed seats which are at most 10 feet from the screen... and throw pillows scattered throughout the theater as if THAT will help make things comfortable. If you don't get to the theater a half-hour early you can count on the all the middle seating being taken (there are only 4 or 5 rows) and having to sit on the fringe of the theater having to look almost straight up and to the side. Oh well, I suppose that's what they call the "charm" of these small, independent theaters. Though, this is the FIRST movie I've gone to at the independent theaters in Ithaca that DIDN'T have film/sound trouble. Bravo. ;-) | private feedback | |
