Home Depot and Wal-Mart and Lowe's.... Oh My! I couldn't help but make a point of mentioning the big cover story in the Ithaca Journal today. It seems a development company plans to build a HUGE plaza behind the current KMart/Staples plaza which will include a Wal-Mart and a Lowe's, among other stores. These developers have done their homework, setting their gaze upon a less-controversial site for the plaza. (It used to be Ithaca's old landfill.) Southwest development is finally reaching a frenzied pace -- with the recent announcement of Home Depot across from Buttermilk falls and a Barnes and Noble set to open this fall in the Tops Plaza. Our little city is growing up and overall, it seems to be happening in a responsible way... all the big-box, traffic-heavy, car-dependent development will be in one corner of the city. Let's just see that it stays there. This just in... The guy I met at the Ithaca Sports Club last week called me at my office this morning. *big grin* My intern put a litle post-it in front of me with "Line #2" scribbled on it. I quickly picked up the phone with my standard "This is Shane" greeting and there he was! He wanted to get together tonight (I have no idea if it would have included the girls or not) but I had to say no cause I already have plans. (It was a very rushed conversation unfortunately, because this morning has been so crazy at work. I cringe everytime I hear my email beep or the phone ring.)
