and... Match Game (the 70's version), my favorite game show of all time, is back on the Game Show Network! Monday through Friday at 12:30 pm. So I am consistently going home for lunch so I can watch it. :-) Does it get any better than that!? | private feedback | (0) public comments "There's a smile on my face, for the whole human race..." Anyone know what song starts like that? :-) Bonus points if you do. Heheh, I am on a high, had a great day yesterday! Won't spoil it by talking about it just yet, but it lasted until early in the morning. Only a blip of bad news on the radar this morning. My boss told me I can't take Friday off work. I had been planning to go to Burlington, VT this weekend with a good friend to help him scope out the place and maybe look at apartments. We were going to leave Friday and come back Sunday. Now I'm not sure if that puts his plans in jeopardy. I'm sure everything will work out fine in the end... Other than that I'm doing great today! There are just not enough hours in the day. More later... | private feedback | (0) public comments Monday, October 29, 2001 I just got off the phone with one of my best friends in the world, Harlie. We don't talk as much as I would like, she lives in Chicago now, and she's married. Our lives have taken vastly different turns since college. But she's one of those people that even after not talking for months, the minute you hear her voice it seems like only days have passed. Familiar in so many ways. I met Harlie the first day I was at Cornell. They had an event called "First Night" where all the freshman gather on the football field for a night of "supervised activities." All in all it was a pretty lame night. I was standing around when I felt a tap on my shoulder and I assumed it was someone trying to get past me. So I said, "Excuse me," and stepped out of the way. But instead a voice said, "No. I'm trying to introduce myself." She was the first person I met at Cornell. And the rest is pretty much history. We've shared alot. More than I could ever write here (in the name of brevity and decency). We dated for a day. She's says a day-and-a-half. :-) And when I came out to her she was sure she was responsible. She still jokes about it to this day. Anyway, she invited me out to Chicago for Thanksgiving. It would be great to see her again! She totally lifts my spirits. :-) Love ya Harlie! | private feedback | (0) public comments Sunday, October 28, 2001 Ok, so I could never be a columnist, paid to come up with something important to write about every day. Maybe that means my life is pretty boring. This weekend was pretty mellow, but that's exactly what I wanted. Friday and Saturday hung out with a friend which was great, last night was the Halloween Party at Common Ground. Wasn't as busy as years past. I was over it by 12:30. I left shortly after they announced the winner of the costume contest. A few friends and I grabbed a bite to eat at Mano's Diner. Today, I plan on playing homemaker. Cleaning, baking, household chores. ;-) Then going to cheer on some friends at the bowling alley this afternoon. :-) Then I got the new book for booktalk yesterday, "Oranges are Not the Only Fruit" by Jeanette Winterson. It's short. I'll try to finish it up in the next few days... | private feedback | (0) public comments Wednesday, October 24, 2001 A tip: "It is far better to arrive at an event overdressed than underdressed. If you leave early, people will think you've got somewhere more important to go." And a quote I like, "It would be tragic to be wearing the wrong shoes when meeting the right guy." I didn't have much to say today, obviously... :-) | private feedback | (0) public comments Tuesday, October 23, 2001 Ok, that didn't take long. Pics of the walls I painted in my living room! | private feedback | (0) public comments Pretty slow day yesterday. Worked, went to the gym, watched t.v. for most of the evening. I am really getting into the Monday night line-up on CBS. "King of Queens" and "Everybody Loves Raymond." :-) Although the highlight of my night was a comedy special last night by Bill Maher. He is so amazing and hysterically funny! His humor is so intelligent. I really respect him. And while I don't agree with every thing he says, I can respect the fact that he means what he says. I wish "Politically Incorrect" wasn't on so late at night. :-) And... close to my heart, Bill is a Cornell Alum. Uhm, I'm working on getting some pics of my apartment up today. I know some of you are dying to see what I did to my living room since I babbled on and on about the wide horizontal stripes for months. :-) Riiiiight. | private feedback | (0) public comments Monday, October 22, 2001 This weekend really made me appreciate all the people I have been fortunate enough to meet and who have all become very important in my life. Thanks to everyone who came out to support me bartending Saturday night at Common Ground. I had a blast. I hope everyone else did too! Though, I hope noone took pictures. *big cute grin* And to all the folks that I ran into on Sunday at brunch, at the bowling alley, and at the Blue Water Day concert. I would thank everyone by name, but I'm sure I'd miss some folks and I don't want to single anyone out. You know who you are! Ok, ok, enough of my gushing. Just counting my blessings. I'll try to get some more substantive content up later. :-) | private feedback | (0) public comments Wednesday, October 17, 2001 So I think I have just set up to Post to my website using AIM. What a great idea! Whoever thought of this should be given tons of money! I can update the news to my web page just by sending a message to an AIM screenname. Incredible! Just wanted to see if it works. ;-) | private feedback | (0) public comments Sick day... I'm still at work, but I'm feeling terrible. Sore throat, sensitive sinuses and my tooth hurts from last Thursday. I called the dentist yesterday and he hasn't returned my phone call yet. :-( I just want to know how many days of pain is normal after a visit. I would have called in sick today (it took me forever to get out of bed) but I have tons of work to finish this week. I need some tylenol... Last night, I found time to put up the remainder of Jason's pics from this weekend. I know you all know how cute my nephew is, but look again anyway. Jason Bradley's Page. And don't forget this Saturday from 9 pm - 1:30 am I'm going to be out at the Common Ground as a guest bartender. Please come out to say hi and have fun! I want my first bartending experience to be a major success. :-) | private feedback | (0) public comments Monday, October 15, 2001 I posted two new pics of my newphew last night. Check them out! The second pic is him opening one of my gifts. ;-) He loved the stuffed elephant and didn't put it down the whole weekend! Way better than those silly plastic toys that make tons of noise that everyone else got him. *big cute grin* Tonight, I am going to a fundraiser at the Common Ground to support my friend who is running for County Board of Representatives. After that I'll try and POST some of the other pics I took this weekend. Check him out, he's really adorable! | private feedback | (0) public comments Saturday, October 13, 2001 So, tonight my mom and I went to see this movie starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale, "Serendipity." Can I just say that I love the word serendipity. Defined as a "fortunate accident," what a beautiful word to describe such an interesting concept. Incidentally, my other favorite word, limerance, is a scientific term for "puppy love." That feeling you get when you first meet someone and you can't get enough of them, you can't eat and you can't sleep, you just constantly think about them. I tried naming a puppy of mine "Limerance," but it wasn't very practical. Sorry, I'm a little off the course of my story now... So, this movie was really cute, and super romantic. Two people being brought together by fate over seven year's time, blah, blah. A million movies are about this same thing, and I still get excited about every one of them. My favorite movie scene is from "Sleepless in Seattle." Meg Ryan is gushing over a scene in an old black and white movie, lamenting why she can never fall in love like that and says, "I want to be in love." And Rosie O'Donnell responds, "You don't want to be in love. You want to be in love in a movie." In my opinion, whether or not "movie romance" is real is not the point. The point is, we can all strive for it... | private feedback | (0) public comments *sigh* I have so much to say. Today was such a draining day on so many levels. First of all, I did not sleep a wink last night and had to be on a bus this morning at 6 am to come to Rochester for my godson's birthday party. I would have been fine if I hadn't gone out last night, but after getting in late and packing and wrapping presents, I figured there was no point in going to bed at all. It would have been worse to try and get up after an hour's sleep. I slept the whole morning away at Mom's, got up just in time to jump in the shower and get to the party. :-) The birthday party was really frustrating for a lot of reasons I won't go into here. The biggest reason, is that Michelle and the baby are moving to Pennsylvania next weekend so I won't get to see them very much after today. And I'm not sure the reasons for moving to Pennsylvania are the best. But I try not to judge or question other people. I just want what's best for Jason in the end. So... because I won't see him for a while, I was taking a lot of pictures with my new digital camera, probably too many. I'll try to get them up posted as soon as possible. This is really the first batch of pictures I have taken with the camera so it might take me a while to figure out how to download them to the computer and then manipulate them to post online. :-) I even figured out how to make a little movie clip with my digital camera. I'll have to play around with this feature later. OK, This might be my longest blogger entry I've ever written, so bear with me... In fact, I'm going to have to type out a "Part 2." :-) I want to ramble on a little about my idea of romance... To be continued... | private feedback | (0) public comments Friday, October 12, 2001 Isn't it amazing how a trip to the dentist can ruin a perfectly good day? I spent two hours at the dentist yesterday and it completely turned my day upside down. My jaw ached so much that I didn't want to go anywhere or do anything after work. Not to the gym, not the book discussion group. :-( I won't even go into what I had done, but I wasn't so horrified with the procedure as much as the bill. I'm really bummed I didn't make it to the book discussion group since I actually finished the book this time. As a side note, I'm expecting my digital camera today (ordered it online yesterday) so... I'll let you all know how that works out. Hopefully, that means new and more fun pictures for my site. I love tech gadgets!! | private feedback | (0) public comments Wednesday, October 10, 2001 I guess it's time I announced it here... I'm doing a guest bartending slot at Common Ground on Saturday, October 20th. So every friend, acquaintance, and gay.com-er had better come out and support me. :-) Yes, even you lesbians! I have never mixed drinks before, so it will be a fun evening (especially for those I'm mixing drinks for). :-) *laugh* Other than that, you'll be happy to know I have hot water again. I'm also in the home stretch of my book for book group on Thursday. It's really good! If you get the chance, read it. Its called "Bastard Out of Carolina" by Dorothy Allison. I'm determined to finish this book before the discussion, I normally only get about half way through. And I WILL be playing darts at Common Ground tonight, so I'll see some of you up there. :-) | private feedback | (0) public comments Tuesday, October 09, 2001 I got home from work yesterday to find a note taped to my door. "The hot water heater broke this afternoon and can't be fixed until tomorrow morning. Sorry for the inconvenience." No hot water!?!?! Like many people, my morning shower is crucial to the success of my day. It wakes me up after I have hit the snooze button five times and reluctantly rolled out of bed. I heated some water on the stove and poured it in the bathroom sink, hoping for any sort of normal cleaning routine. It was so "Little House on the Prairie." Those poor girls... So if you see me today at less than my best, blame it on the lack of hot water in my apartment! | private feedback | (0) public comments Monday, October 08, 2001 Another great weekend in Rochester! It was a long weekend cause I stayed in Rochester last night and got back in Ithaca today around 1. Came to work this afternoon. Seems to be dragging on forever. Last night seeing John Waters (director of "Serial Mom," my favorite movie of all time) exceeded every expectation I had. Everything he says is surprising and hysterically funny. I don't remember many points at which I wasn't laughing. I want to rent every one of his movies and camp out in front of my television. I'm even willing to give "Pink Flamingos" a second try. Thanks Tom for getting those tickets! ;-) | private feedback | (0) public comments Friday, October 05, 2001 Hedwig and the Angry Inch... I was really worried this movie wasn't going to live up to it's off-broadway predecessor. I mean, how many movies actually live up to their play/book origins? I saw Hedwig last night and I was pleasantly surprised. After a slow-paced beginning I really got into the main character, and most of the songs are phenomenal. My fav? "Wig in a Box." Go see this movie! | private feedback | (0) public comments Tuesday, October 02, 2001 Things just ain't the same. I rushed home for lunch yesterday to watch "Match Game" and found it had been replaced by the updated version that aired in the 80's. Hoping it was a fluke I again rushed home today to watch it. Still the one from the 80's. I mean who wants to watch a game show with Sally Struthers anyways? Who cares! *sigh* I've tried to give it a shot, really I have, but it just isn't as good. In fact it sucks. Does this spell doom for my love affair with the Game Show Network? Tune in to find out... | private feedback | (0) public comments |
