So I know we've all seen those scenes from movies where everyone bursts out in song and dance, choreographed and perfect. Well, I came the closest ever to seeing that in real life today at Collegetown Bagels downtown. :-) I was standing in line waiting to pay for my plain bagel with veggie cream cheese when "Can't Hurry Love" by Diana Ross and the Supremes came on. The whole place started lip-synching or singing to the song and bopping their heads. Even the lady behind the counter got into it a little. Put a huge smile on my face. Maybe those scenes do happen in real life, it's just gotta be the right song... | private feedback | (0) public comments Monday, November 26, 2001 It's been a rough day. In fact, I'm still working. I was at the office until 8 tonight and then I brought home some work that I did all through dinner (warmed up Thanksgiving leftovers), the new episode of Absolutely Fabulous, and two long phone conversations. :-) The worst part is that I have to go into work early in the morning to finish everything up. Yikes! The work I brought home is brainless, putting together a mailing... if I stick one more address label on an envelope I'll snap. | private feedback | (0) public comments Sunday, November 25, 2001 Did you see the sky tonight? AMAZING! It looked like a fire in the sky, sometime around 4:30ish. I tried taking a picture of it... Luckily, I snapped one shot before the battery went dead in my digital camera. Check out this view from my stoop. Shortly afterwards, I went to hang out with a few friends of mine, we rented two movies Legally Blonde (which was much better than I thought it would be) and Just One Time. I haven't forgotten about my trip to Rochester, I had a blast! I'm just not sure where to start writing about it... | private feedback | (0) public comments Saturday, November 24, 2001 So I decided to give Common Ground another shot tonight after not having gone since Halloween. What a mistake! That place is so lame. You won't see me there again for a while. A bunch of people that I saw, even the music reminded me of the original reasons that I stopped going. I'm looking forward to going to Rochester tomorrow with my friend Mike. :-) He's never been out in Rochester before. Maybe do a little shopping, grab a bite and then go out on the town. So if you see me out, come up and say hi. :-) | private feedback | (0) public comments Thursday, November 22, 2001 HAPPY THANKSGIVING! And what a beautiful day it is! My neighbor is outside throwing ball with his son and the sun is shining in my windows. I hope everyone enjoys this day to its fullest! I'm off to a dinner with friends. | private feedback | (0) public comments Wednesday, November 21, 2001 Just a quick note. It's bedtime for me, but I played around with my digital camera today and took some pics of my cat. I dedicated a page on my site to her. She's adorable, check out Chrissy's page. | private feedback | (0) public comments Tuesday, November 20, 2001 Well today has been a very busy day and I've managed to avoid getting online for most of it. I had lunch with my co-worker at Benchwarmer's, ran into my friend Cheri on the way back to the office, had back-to-back meetings this afternoon. OH! My friend Mike found songs I have been looking for on a new music download service, audiogalaxy.com. I guess it's pretty good, although I can't use it 'cause I own a mac. But all of you PC users check it out. I was looking for the two new songs on Reba McEntire's Greatest Hits Volume III album. I can't see spending money on an album when I already own 90% of the songs. (Even though Reba is my favorite entertainer of all time.) | private feedback | (0) public comments Monday, November 19, 2001 I saw my first Salvation Army bell-ringer today, and I was reminded of something I learned last year, the Salvation Army's position on Homosexuality. (I don't know how many of you know this, because I didn't.) Last year around this time a friend of mine (a lesbian) asked me if I would be a bell-ringer for the Salvation Army. I am not anti-charity, but I try to be responsible about who gets my money and my time. After doing a little research I found out that because the Salvation Army's mission is based on the bible, they are not the most open-minded to gays/lesbians. They do not advocate abuse or even reformation of gays/lesbians and they wouldn't refuse service to members of our community that sought them but one sentence from their position statement says, "Scripture forbids sexual intimacy between members of the same sex. The Salvation Army believes, therefore, that Christians whose sexual orientation is primarily or exclusively same-sex are called upon to embrace celibacy as a way of life." Just a heads-up, I would think twice before I threw my money in the little red bucket this holiday season. For me, my friend's excuse of "But they do so much good in the community" didn't cut it. | private feedback | (0) public comments I had such a great time this weekend! I don't even think I could type it all out (I may try later). It was so great to be in a different place, to be out in Binghamton, to spend time with my friends Denise and Jane and then on Sunday with Denise's kids and family. We stayed up until 5 in the morning after closing Prism's and then got up again at 10:30 to spend a day running around with kids. This is not a routine I'm used to. :-) By the time I got home last night and made a few phone calls I was exhausted. I slept like a baby. Busy day of meetings today. Possibly a meeting this evening too. Yuck... Hopefully I can find some time this evening to put my apartment back in order. Well, more later if I can find the time... | private feedback | (0) public comments Saturday, November 17, 2001 Have you ever read "Tales of the City" by Armistead Maupin? The character Mona, has one of my favorite lines, something like..."You can never have a hot lover, a hot apartment and a hot job all at the same time." That is SOOOO true. :-) I have a job that I love and a great apartment... so I'll never have a... well you get the picture. I won't have a boyfriend until I ditch the job or move. :-) *big cute grin* | private feedback | (0) public comments Thursday, November 15, 2001 I made it up to my favorite place on Cornell's campus last night. I like to walk across the Olin Library patio and kick stones across it. They make this really cool sound bouncing off the pavers. I affectionately refer to them as the "musical stones." When I was a student at CU, everytime I had a first date with someone from out of town I would take them on a tour of campus at night, and we'd always end up at the "musical stones." And... if they thought they were as cool as I did, it was a very good sign. :-) Last night I also walked back downtown (must have been about 11:30 by the time I was done on campus). I love walking on the Commons at night. Everything just looks so different. It takes me three times as long to walk on the commons at night than it does in the afternoon. I walk THAT slow, taking time to appreciate all the shadows. It feels like the commons is almost some sort of diorama, with painted cardboard store fronts. Nothing really has depth like it does during the day. And the only light is coming from the commons itself, not above, so it feels like there's a ceiling over your head. You can almost convince yourself that you're the only "real" thing in the world and everything else is just cardboard. Ok, enough of my ode to two of my favorite things. Now, I gotta get some work done. | private feedback | (0) public comments Wednesday, November 14, 2001 I so have nothing to say right now. Booktalk was pretty great on Monday. We had four new members, thanks to a marketing push by one of our members who made signs and distributed cards. I got asked to make a Web site for the group. I'm actually looking forward to making a site for something worthwhile. ;-) Now that I've learned a thing or two with my own. Once I finish it I'll link it from my site so you can see my handiwork. Last night was pretty uneventful, went to the gym and then went home to chill out for the night. I went crazy in the kitchen, marinated some chicken and mashed and baked some potatoes (experimenting with different ways of cooking them) and some veggies. Was the best meal I had made for myself in a while. :-) I think I was inspired because when I got home "Cooking Live" with Sarah Moulton was on the Food Network. How cute is she? Well, I'm off, laundry and then hopefully doing some reading in Collegetown... :-) | private feedback | (0) public comments Monday, November 12, 2001 Random thoughts... I've been forgetting to get a new checkbook register for weeks. I need one desperately, my check-card receipts are overwhelming my wallet. :-) The one day I remember is the day the bank is closed for Veteran's Day. Hmmph. Today is going to be busy. Work (which is going insanely slow), Booktalk, and then the premiere of the new season of Ab Fab on Comedy Central @ 9! | private feedback | (0) public comments Sunday, November 11, 2001 I don't even know where to start about my weekend. :-) Friday after work my friend Cheri and I took off for a night of fun in Rochester. After some appetizers and warm-up beverages at a cute bar/restaurant called Mex, we went to RJ's. It was pretty quiet and a mixed crowd. Perfect way to start the evening. Everyone said we had to go to Muther's by midnight cause that's when the drag show started, so dutifully we trekked a few blocks over to a PACKED Muther's. We could hardly move around, couldn't see the stage to see the performers so we went back to RJ's. Of course by this time there was NOONE at RJ's cause they were all at Muther's, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves... 'cept for all the lesbians that had taken over the dance floor. I was like one of five guys there. :-) And here I thought we wouldn't find a lesbian bar in Rochester, this was the next best thing!! We crashed at my Mom's overnight. It was good to see her a few minutes. Saturday I ran around doing errands, and washing clothes, all in preparation for Brett and Jamie's cocktail party in the evening. The party was great! All those people coming together to help celebrate Brett and Jamie's one year anniversary. And I was too busy talking to take pics. :-( I met some really great folks and... Jamie, you make a mean espresso martini. ;-) I talked to my friend Lori for an hour and a half on the phone this morning. I used to live with her and I hadn't talked to her in way too long. She's so great at keeping me centered. Then I went to the bowling alley to keep some friends company and catch up with them. I hung out with Lori after that, we got dinner, did some shopping, and watched some television... After my busy weekend, I'm exhausted and really looking forward to sleep tonight. :-) I guess that's where I'm headed now... zzzzzzzzzzzz | private feedback | (0) public comments Friday, November 09, 2001 Wow. My back is sore! I pushed myself a little too hard at the gym yesterday. It felt great while I was doing it, but its probably going to feel even worse tomorrow. Let's see, yesterday I had lunch with my bestest girlfriend in the world, Cheri. We decided to go out in Rochester tonight for the hell of it. We're both sick of the bar scene here in Ithaca. So we're gonna stay at my Mom's in Pittsford. I've actually never been out with her alone, but she's the type that will create fun wherever she goes. I'm psyched! Although I couldn't find information about any lesbian bars in Rochester. I've never been to one before and I figured a city the size of Rochester would have at least one. We'll make do...for Cheri's sake. :-) | private feedback | (0) public comments Wednesday, November 07, 2001 Congratulations to friends Leslyn McBean and David Whitmore for winning seats on the County Board of Reps and the Common Council, respectively. They are going to be great representatives for city constituents. And of course to my friend Kathy Hererra who will be the new representative on the County Board for the 5th district in the city of Ithaca. As for me, nothing terribly exciting going on today... Will write more if anything happens. :-) | private feedback | (0) public comments Tuesday, November 06, 2001 So I walked around all day with a sticker on my coat that said "I voted today!" The cute little old lady at the polling place gave it to me this morning. :-) I was surprised how many people said, "So we're supposed to vote today?" And of course I wanted to respond, "No, I just wore this sticker so that you'd ask that stupid question." But seriously, I can't believe how many people thought voting was just an every-four-year event, like the olympics, that only happened when there were folks running for president. How sad. But don't despair, there's still time. Polls are open until 9. Go VOTE if you're registered! | private feedback | (0) public comments Monday, November 05, 2001 A three hour mediation... I LOVE being a mediator. I get such a great feeling when two people who were fighting like cats and dogs end up shaking hands and walking out of the room smiling. Of course as a mediator I can't take too much credit. All I do is ask clarifying questions and try to help when communication breaks down. But it's a process that I believe in so much that I really enjoy practicing it. And it's so relevant to life in general. Check out the theory behind Transformative Mediation movement online from the folks that created it, Robert A. Baruch Bush and Joseph P. Folger. These guys are amazing, I attended a conference at Hofstra led by them last December. | private feedback | (0) public comments Besides this nasty pain in my back, it seems to be a typical Monday. Back-to-back meetings, and playing catch up from last week. Wanted to get my hair cut on lunch today but I ran into a bunch of people I knew and ran out of time. :-( What about my weekend you ask? I had a great weekend! A super guy (Shaun) spent most of the weekend with me. We stayed in Friday. On Saturday afternoon we made a trip to Carousel mall for a little shopping. Saturday night we hit a couple coffee shops in collegetown and I took him on a walking tour of Cornell campus. I hadn't seen all the new dorms on North Campus or the renovations to Robert Purcell. WOW! It's so different than when I was a student. Shaun, thanks for the great weekend and spending time with me, you're such a sweetheart! *big cute grin* And then last night I went with my friend Mike to the sports bar near my apartment. Of course it was a little crazy with the 7th game of the world series being played... (and I'm sure most of the guys left disappointed that the Yankees didn't win). Of course I had no interest in the game, I just wanted to play some pinball and darts. :-) I'm mediating a case tonight at 6, so the day is going to drag on at least until after 8. And if this pain in my back holds out, I WILL be drawing a jacuzzi bath later. | private feedback | (0) public comments Thursday, November 01, 2001 I hope everyone had a great Halloween! One of the things I miss about my old apartment is handing out candy to gaggles of ghosts, draculas, witches and power rangers on my porch on Halloween night. I wouldn't see any in my new location. If you've been there you'll understand why. I can hardly believe its already November 1! This year just seems to be cruising by. | private feedback | (0) public comments |
