Hey! I decided my site needed a facelift for 2002! All that white was really bothering me. :-) All the secondary pages are still in the old style... but this homepage should give you an idea of what I'm trying to accomplish. Drop me a line if you like (or don't like) the new look, I'm tinkering with it as I go.

*Yawn* I just rolled out of bed... I tried to update my blogger yesterday but they had some sort of security breach and I couldn't get into the site. Bummer. I have been getting worse and worse about updating this log... but it has been a pretty quiet holiday. Which is good... I got home from Rochester yesterday afternoon and made a list of all the little piddly things that I want to get done before I go back to work. Things I've been putting off like mop the floor, scrub the shower stall, hang the curtain in the bedroom... that kind of stuff. I was little Mr. Domestic. :-) And the list continues today... so I had better get a move on. Plans for this weekend? Probably go to Common Ground tonight (even though I'm hesitant to go), and then go out in Syracuse tomorrow (been a while since I've been out there.)

Yes, there is a Santa Claus. My nephew ended up making it to Rochester for Christmas after all! :-) Oh yeah, and my brother too. :-) I am spending the next few days in Rochester with Mom. I got to see Jason Bradley last night and this afternoon. I gave him all his gifts. I spoiled him rotten this year. But I have an excuse, bein' his godfather and all. I'll be in town until Wednesday night or Thursday morning when my friend Mike flies in from Chicago and then I catch a ride with him to Ithaca. Had a christmas party tonight at my mother's boyfriend's family. Tomorrow, we're having a little get together here and doing the gift thang. I'm exhaused, from chasing Jason Bradley around the house... so... MERRY CHRISTMAS! I'll check in again soon I hope.

Happy Monday! I had a pretty good weekend... My friend Mike and I went to Rochester. The ride up was nasty, it was raining heavily. We ate a HUGE dinner Friday night at Mex, which pretty much put a damper on the evening for me (stomach cramps and all)... We went out to RJ's and Muther's Friday night, but my stomach was so full I literally couldn't have a drink! I hadn't eaten like that since Thanksgiving. Saturday afternoon we shopped at the Mall at Greece Ridge Center pretty much all day and met up with a few friends of mine, Chris and Dennis. :-) Then went to a house party Saturday night followed by Club GQ. On Sunday, Mom, Mike and I had brunch at Jine's on Park Ave. and then shopped at Parkleigh. While shopping, I ran into my old high school French teacher, Mrs. Shanahan. It was odd to see her after all this time. She is still telling her students how I missed one question on the French Regents exam...and got a score of 98 instead of 100. One verb that I didn't conjugate correctly, the LAST question on the exam :-) Apparently, every time she goes over that verb in class now she mentions it, every year for seven years! Last night I went to the drag show at Common Ground. I swear there are more queens in Ithaca, Elmira, and Binghamton than ever before. Way too many. They'll let anyone who puts on a dress and a wig perform at these shows. Hopefully, in the future they'll start being selective about who gets to perform, so the shows don't go on for four hours. The only thing that keeps me in my seat is Anita Mann. Anita is fab! Ok, well I have tons to do this week before we close on Friday... (until January 2nd)... so I better get a move on!

Check out this Spa site that a friend pointed me to today. I had no idea something like this existed in Central NY! http://www.mirbeau.com/. Anyone want to go with me for a day!?

I have had one of the best weeks I've had in a long time! I started a new diet and workout routine, the "Body For Life" program by Bill Phillips. It's been on the New York Times bestseller list for two years... and it's seems easy enough to follow. This week my energy level has been higher than normal. I feel like I can do anything and make it through the whole day without wanting to nap. :-) Tonight, my friend Mike and I are hitting Rochester. Staying at my mother's in Pittsford. Tomorrow we'll get some christmas shopping done at the decent malls there and then hit a holiday party... The goal is to be back in Ithaca on Sunday in time for a drag show at the Common Ground. Yay! I love busy weekends. And this weekend I'll get to see Mom since we're staying in Rochester for more than one night. :-) I'm sure I'll have stories to tell when I get back. :-)

The Ithaca anti-development loonies win again. I read in the Journal today that Target has pulled out of their lease deal with Widewaters Development because they got too nervous about the delays being caused by a few loud protesters. Hopefully, Target will simply relocate to Pyramid Mall (apparently there are already talks in process). It's a shame that Ithaca will lose the opportunity to host a socially responsible company, and another shopping option (not to mention missing out on the increased tax revenue)... all because of a few petty (and loud) individuals.

I got the new "OUT" magazine today... and who do you think Michael Musto did an interview with this month? Uh-huh. Reba McEntire. One of his witty, short (one page) interviews. I about lost my breath when I saw a big picture of her on the table of contents page. Reba is going to be a gay diva soon enough, mark my words. She's been mentioned in the Advocate and OUT magazines recently. OUT Magazine's Web site hasn't been updated yet, but when it is... I'll put up a link up to her interview.

OK. So I recently posted a message with a link to the PFLAG site about the Salvation Army fake money... Well, I found a better (better looking) version of the fake money. It's in the form of a Microsoft Word document. :-) Print it out on any color printer and start depositing in red kettles. :-) Download it here.

$8.25 for a movie in Ithaca!?!? I went with my friend Cheri on Saturday to see Ocean's 11 (the new movie with half of Hollywood in it). It was a good movie, and MIGHT have been worth the ticket price if it weren't for the five commercials, the ten previews, the people opening bags of candy and kicking my seat from behind throughout the movie, and, of course, the constant mumbling and talking. What is it about this experience that makes it worth $8.25? I think I'll stick with video rentals where I can invite over whoever I want (I KNOW which of my friends will yap through a movie), I can wear what I want, I can pause if I want, and most importantly fast forward through previews if I want. I can even eat whatever I want. AND if I like it, i can watch it again within five days. I think I'd rather wait a few months and stick with the $4.99 Video Rental experience.

In my internet surfing the last few days I have found some very interesting links pertaining to the Salvation Army's discrimnation against Gays and Lesbians and what people are doing in response. PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) is recommending that anyone opposed to the Salvation Army policies should print out "fake money" available at their Web site and put it in the little red kettle in lieu of a donation. Each phony dollar bill that lands in a red kettle lets the Salvation Army know that they WOULD HAVE gotten this donation if they didn't have bigoted and intolerant policies. I encourage everyone that reads my site to do this. Every phony dollar counts! :-)

So last night I watched a few movies. "Best of Show" by Christopher Guest, and "The Bachelor" which starred Chris O'Donnell. I decided that I am going to start planning to watch movies so that it's worth having Digital Cable. :-) I would have read my BookTalk book for next week except I can't stand it. I've decided not to waste my time. This seems to be the general sentiment of other booktalk members that I've talked to. And I'll bet you that the person who recommended it doesn't even show up on the 10th. That's the way it generally works. :-) OH! I sent around the URL for the site I set up to the BooktalkQ members, so I can post it up here now. Check it out. I promise all our books aren't as bad as this month. In fact this is the first really terrible book we've read. They can't all be winners, right? It's going to be an evening filled with fun and surprises if all goes as planned. The gym, laundry, Must See T.V., and then Club Q at the Chanticleer. Yahoo!

I got an email forward from a friend (which I normally hate, but for some reason she only sends me REALLY good ones) with some pics that I wanted to share. Essentially, they're a bunch of funny christmas card covers that someone scanned. :-) HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

I feel the need to continually post this message on my site since I feel so strongly about it... Especially with TWO Salvation Army Bell Ringers stationed on the commons. I learned last year about the Salvation Army's position on Homosexuality. I am not anti-charity, but I try to be responsible about who gets my money and my time. After doing a little research I found out that because the Salvation Army's mission is based on the bible, they are not the most open-minded to gays/lesbians. They do not advocate abuse or even reformation of gays/lesbians and they wouldn't refuse service to members of our community, but one sentence from their position statement says, "Scripture forbids sexual intimacy between members of the same sex. The Salvation Army believes, therefore, that Christians whose sexual orientation is primarily or exclusively same-sex are called upon to embrace celibacy as a way of life." Just a heads-up, I would think twice before I threw my money in the little red bucket this holiday season.

So the other day I was bored and circled all the movies with gay themes in the digital cable guide. Heheheh You know, "Trick," "The Birdcage," "But I'm a Cheerleader," "The Broken Hearts Club," "Urbania." I was so looking forward to watching "Urbania" last night. It was my treat to myself after working all day. I was at work until 5:30, and then hit the gym until 6:30... then back to the office until 8. By the time I was home at 8:30 I was able to catch the last hour of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, but I fell asleep before "Urbania." And I slept right through until this morning. Damnit! I gotta buy some video tapes and learn how to set the timer on the VCR. Then I can watch all these movies at a decent hour. :-) Work has been so busy lately that I'm constantly at the office late. I've even been slacking at the gym, but my workout partner and I are going to make a concerted effort to get back on track. We're putting together a real schedule and making our own progress/tracking spreadsheets this time. :-)

So I must have one of the most understanding landlords in the world. I didn't follow protocol when I painted my apartment, and I broke the news to him today. If you haven't seen the pics, you should see my living room to understand what I'm talking about. He said "Well I'm sure as long as it's a neutral enough color it will be fine." I don't think my bright blue and light blue horizontal stripes count as neutral, so I responded, "No, I don't think they are." He just nodded and said, "As long as you're happy. You've got to live there." And on top of that he still insists on reimbursing me for the paint I used! *big cute grin*

Ugh! My Handspring went on the fritz Saturday, started to make all kinds of little clicky noises and I couldn't make it respond by hitting any button. Of course (as Murphy's Law goes) I hadn't synched it with my computer in a while. So, I lost my calendar, my to do list, and most importantly all my email addresses and phone numbers in my address book. *big huge sigh* It's going to be a rough week.

Ok, so I've been working on this a couple of days. You've seen what I look like now, but haven't you always been curious what I looked like when I was in kindergarten? Senior year high school? I knew it. Here's your chance... check out my life in pictures. Let me know if you find any bugs, I'm going to keep working on it and will try to add more stuff as I can. :-)

Hey! I'm Shane... a proud gay progressive Democrat who has recently relocated to New York City from Ithaca, NY. As I am no longer in Ithaca, I haven't quite decided the fate of this blog.
