No doubt about it. I have been getting lazy about updating my blog. Or am I just busier? Probably a little of both. Work, where I tend to do most of my blogging, HAS been busier for a while. And I've been spending a lot of time with a certain special someone that I won't name yet for fear of jinxing one of the positive things in my life. :-) Let's just say I'm wearing a big stupid grin more often. Last night, this person asked me to be their Valentine. Now, I've never been officially asked to be someone's Valentine. It was just always assumed because I was dating them. But when someone looks you in the eye and says, "Will you be my Valentine?" there's a certain old-school romantic charm to it. "Yes" seems like a rather ordinary response, but that was my answer. Tonight, he and I are going to see Shakespeare's R & J at the Kitchen Theater. Apparently a story about high school boys discovering the passion of Romeo and Juliet. It played off-broadway for a while, and I've heard great things! | private feedback | (0) public comments Wednesday, January 30, 2002 So, you'll notice a new link at the top of my page called "friends." I finally got around to making a page dedicated to all the people that I love dearly (in that friendship kinda way). If you want to be on the page (chat friends, real life friends, family, whoever...) just let me know and I'll put you there. Right now, Mike has the space all to himself. He's a DJ at heart and has some interesting opinions on music selections, so you should definitely check out his site. Keep checking back often! I also took out the gay ithaca calendar. While it's nice in theory, noone ever looked at it and I don't have the time to keep updating it. Any really cool stuff I'll be alerting people about in my blogger journal anyway. :-) | private feedback | (0) public comments Monday, January 28, 2002 So I came across a really cool article, a little piece of Apple history. Talks about the now famous (to Mac users anyway) Big Brother commercial that ran during the 1984 Superbowl. Click here to read it. | private feedback | (0) public comments February is Black History Month. Below is a short background and the theme for Black History Month 2002: "From Negro Week to Celebration of Black History Month" Carter G. Woodson, the father of Black History, founded Negro History Week in 1926 to inform the world about black achievement and to inspire black youth, in particular, to greater accomplishment. In 1976, during America's bicentennial and the fiftieth anniversary of Negro History Week, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History expanded the observation to a month. The purpose of the celebration is to introduce a theme to be studied intensively during the month and to inform consideration of black history throughout the year. The theme for Black History Month, 2002, is: "The Color Line Revisited: Is Racism Dead?" The great intellectual, W.E.B. Du Bois, wrote in his classic book, Souls of Black Folk, that the problem of the twentieth century is the problem of the color line. As we enter a new century, we need to determine the extent to which the "color line" still influences our lives. | private feedback | (0) public comments Friday, January 25, 2002 I am exhuasted! Wednesday night I spent over an hour jumping on the bed with Keelinn... it was the only "fun" thing she could think of to do in my apartment while I was watching her. And she couldn't do it alone, I HAD to do it with her. :-) She's way too adorable. I took some pics of her playing on my computer so I'll post those when I get around to it. She typed a whole page of gibberish in notepad that I had to read to her as if it was "Beauty and The Beast." A challenge for someone that hasn't seen the disney movie in quite a while. I narrowly avoided the "Cinderella" story by suggesting it was snack time. ;-) We only got through about half of the "Nutcracker Barbie" movie before Grandma came to pick her up. Last night I had spinning class at the gym from 7:00 until after 8. By the time I got home I was ready to pass out. It's such a great workout! My friend Ann (who I do the classes with) and I are going to add another class to our schedule. I need this type of structured aerobics, I'll never do it the right way on my own. Tonight I'm working out after I leave the office. Later, a friend and I are going to grab dinner in Syracuse and then go out to some clubs there... most likely Rain and Trexx. The rest of the weekend has got to be spent catching up on laundry... cleaning house... and reading my book. I haven't had much opportunity to read more of Paul Monette's book, but I really want to get back into it. I also have to share my favorite Keelinn story since I've been thinking about it all day. We were driving back from the Iron Kettle pumpkin farm between here and Binghamton last October, and Lori tells me that Keelinn has declared herself a "Femme." I could hardly stop laughing, I had no idea where she would have heard a word like that. So I said, "Are you a Femme?" And she looked me squarely in the eyes and said, "Yes." So I kept the game going and asked, "Are you a princess?" Of course her answer was "Yes." I said, "Are you butch?" She said, "No, Lori is!" So we all had a good laugh over that (Mostly cause it's true). And then I asked, "Are you a girl?" Another "Yes." Then I asked her "Are you a diva?" She pondered this for only a second and said quickly, "No, YOU are!" Well the three of us busted out laughing, and of course, because of our response, she kept screaming "You're a Diva!" "You're a Diva!" I still lose it when I think about that car ride home. Everytime someone brings my name up she tells them that I'm a Diva. And of course, once you're labeled, no one else can have that title. She gets angry if you call anyone else a diva. In her mind there is only one Diva. Me. :-) Gotta love it. *big cute grin* | private feedback | (0) public comments Wednesday, January 23, 2002 Got tons accomplished at work today. :-) Wrote three press releases and managed to push a bunch of projects closer to completion. Yahoo! Now I'm packing up my bags to go home early. I'm watching Keelinn for a few hours this afternoon while Lori and Darlene are occupied. The office thinks I have a dentist appointment. shhhhh ;-) I can't wait to spend time with her, she's such a cutie patootie. :-) She called last night to ask me what she should bring over, and we ended up talking on the phone for like a half hour. She is so grown-up for being 4 years old. More later! | private feedback | (0) public comments Tuesday, January 22, 2002 Just in time for Valentine's Day. A site dedicated to all kinds of love quizzes. As entertaining as they are corny. *big cute grin* | private feedback | (0) public comments Monday, January 21, 2002 Updates to BooktalkQ's Web site are done. Last month we scheduled books until September. Pick-and-choose books, or come for all discussions. We've got some great ones slated. February's selection is Paul Monnette's autobigraphy, Becoming a Man: Half a Life Story. I'm only 50 pages in (I bought it this weekend), but I'm already so attached to it. He has an amazing writing style that is so honest you feel an instantaneous connection to him. I believe it won the National Book Award when it was first published. I'm exhausted... I think because I haven't been to the gym since last Thursday. Inactivity breeds inactivity. So I gotta force myself to go tonight. Other than that nothing really new to report. Boring day at work today... writing a bunch of press releases. Speaking of... I should probably get back to work. More later! | private feedback | (0) public comments Saturday, January 19, 2002 Ugh. Late start today. Didn't make it to 18 bars last night. Only 8. :-) It was a valiant effort. I had a blast out there promoting Blue Water Day. (They're playing tonight, 9:30 p.m. at Bistro Q on the Inlet). As I was surfing the net the other day I found a quiz where you can answer a series of questions about yourself to see which evil villian you most closely resemble. :-) "If you were an evil villian who would you be?" I know that Jack-The-Ripper is one of the options... I ended up being Imelda Marcos. Hilarious on so many levels. :-) Apparently I'm a fashion queen with the ability to wreak havoc upon an entire country's economy. Fierce! | private feedback | (0) public comments Friday, January 18, 2002 The fun never stops! Hectic day at work today. This whole ad executive thing is stressful, but in a good way. Deadlines, deadlines, and more deadlines! Good thing I can keep a level-head. At lunch today my friend invited me on their bar hopping trip tonight. Their goal is to hit 18 bars in 6 hours.. hmmm.. let's see... that would make 3 bars/hour... or 20 minutes per bar. Ten of us are going, so that means that it will take that long just to get served. I'm a little pesimistic, but I'm sure we'll hit a bunch! And, we're all wearing white t-shirts so that bartenders at each bar can sign our shirts. :-) I'll be the only boi in a group of bar hopping lesbians. How much more fun can you have on a Friday night? | private feedback | (0) public comments Thursday, January 17, 2002 I burned a CD for my favorite 4-year old in the whole wide world yesterday. It was a collection of Faith Hill songs... she loves Faith Hill ever since she heard "Where are you Christmas?" from How The Grinch Stole Christmas. I got this email today from Lori who gave her the CD for me: "Before I forget, I had to write it down... Keelinn had not heard any of the Faith songs except 'This Kiss' and the Grinch one, so as we were listening to it, she was studying the words. After 'Piece of My Heart' played 30x (OK, it *felt* like 30 to me!!) She says, 'People can't do that! Their hearts are in their bodies!!' So we had a discussion about figures of speech and love living in our hearts. How I wish you had been there." How much do I adore Keelinn!?! She's too cute! | private feedback | (0) public comments There are only a few things that really bother me... impatient people and drama come to mind. But, I have to add another to the list... dogs wearing t-shirts meant for people. I was walking on the commons this morning and saw a guy walking his dog... and the dog was wearing a t-shirt. Beyond being wrong, it just looked odd. It didn't fit right, it was hanging off, the poor dog's walking with its head down like its ashamed of the whole scenario. If it could talk, you know it would say, "What could I do?" I'm not against the whole dog clothing genre as a whole. I had an italian greyhound puppy that I dressed in a cute-as-hell fleece jacket in the winter. But, in my defense, it was MADE for a dog. :-) | private feedback | (0) public comments Wednesday, January 16, 2002 I read an article in the Wall Street Journal yesterday that put a little spring in my step. My goal is to get an M.B.A. as soon as I rack-up the necessary work experience. The article said that schools (even ivy-league and very highly ranked schools) are relaxing their requirements on work experience to attract a broader (more diverse in terms of age, gender, race, ethnicity, etc., etc.) segment of the population and to attract applicants who can demonstrate that they have the skills necessary to succeed in the program even without the real-world experience. I was looking to apply to grad school two or three years out, but this new information has shortened my timetable to about a year and a half (long enough for me to get things in order, study for the GMAT, do ample research, apply, etc.) The more research I do into schools, the more excited I get. In fact, I was so excited yesterday that I ordered my GMAT review books. :-) This is definitely a step in the right direction! | private feedback | (0) public comments Tuesday, January 15, 2002 How do I find this stuff!? "Butts Across America" | private feedback | (0) public comments I couldn't keep my posts serious for long. Sometimes, theonion.com has some funny stories. Check out this story about the poor guy that can't sell his Osama Bin Laden Urinal Cakes. | private feedback | (0) public comments I've been going to Rochester frequently over the last four or five months for various reasons (see friends, dates, my nephew, etc.). The most fortunate side effect of these trips is that I'm getting closer and closer with my mother. She works alot (2 jobs) and is a part-time student, so she's only home for a few hours on each of these weekends. Even so, we've managed to catch a movie, play miniature golf, or grab dinner together each trip. This last weekend she randomly bought a gift that she thought was just perfect for me. "I hope you're not offended" she said as she walked to the guest room to get it. It was a Winnie The Pooh hot cocoa set with two mugs and a tin of cocoa. My response was something like, "I Love Winnie The Pooh! Why would this offend me?" And she said "Well, it's kind of childish, but read what the mugs say. When I saw them I thought of you." The mugs have HAPPY BEING ME written across them. I almost cried. She's really coming around to the whole gay thing (besides the occasional "Too much information!" responses when I talk about making out with bois or sex. I do like making mom squirm just a little.) She's also invited me to go to Chicago so she'll have some company when she attends a conference for work there in April, and a getaway in Las Vegas in July (since I've been bugging her to let me use her time-share for years). You know that on the trip to Chicago I'll be dragging her out to N. Halstead St. I have a feeling there are many future adventures in store for my mother and I. :-) | private feedback | (0) public comments Monday, January 14, 2002 An article about "Disco Granny," a woman who has dedicated much of her adult life to making disco balls. ;-) Hehe, obviously I'm not so into fixing problems at work as I should be. *big cute grin* | private feedback | (0) public comments I knew I shouldn't have typed anything about my day going well. I totally jinxed it... UGH. I think I'm going to turn on some music and deal with a few issues that have arisen in the last ten minutes. It's the nature of the beast, right? :-) I have a new favorite on Cher's upcoming album. The song is called "When The Money's Gone." Dance music always helps clear my head... | private feedback | (0) public comments Today is turning out better than expected. I had three meetings this morning. All had the potential of blowing up or becoming confrontational... not because of anything I did or didn't do, but because of the subject matter. All worries were in vain. So I had lunch at Viva, and hopefully the afternoon will coast by. I was looking forward to hanging out with Keelinn after work. I haven't seen her since before Christmas. I have been wanting to see her, she just turned 4 last week. I talked with Lori today, apparently Keelinn came down with pneumonia and so I can't see her until this weekend. :-( I also have BookTalk tonight which I completely forgot about until a few minutes ago. But, I actually read the book this time. | private feedback | (0) public comments Saturday, January 12, 2002 Analyze this dream... I'm at a banquet with all my lesbian friends. The only guy there. I'm hanging out mostly with my ex-roommate, Lori. We're talking about something inane... I don't remember what. We walk out and into the hallway, and I realize that I forgot something in the banquet hall. As we're walking back to the hall, I run into one of my college roommates in full football gear running towards the door... and we exchange some polite conversation. He gives me a big hug and then he introduces me to his girlfriend, a 3'1" blonde dwarf. I say... "You better go cause you'll be late for your football game." He says, "No, I play softball." Then Lori and I walk into the hall. She says, "Who's he? He's hot!" and I wake up. Very unsettling... | private feedback | (0) public comments Wednesday, January 09, 2002 So does anyone have any idea why there has been a recent increase in ripped, torn and otherwise mangled mail? Is there any reason why there's an article in the Ithaca Journal today about mail volume being at an all time low and they still can't deliver it right? Is it the whole anthrax scare and diversion of mail that is causing problems? I actually got a christmas card torn in half! And of course they put your damaged mail in a little envelope that says "WE CARE... We're sorry we damaged your mail but we're taking steps to correct the problem." Oh really? So how come before a month ago I had only gotten one such letter, and I've gotten at least five in the last three months! (Or does that just make me lucky!?) I'm all about making sacrifices if there's a logical reason, but the rate of stamps is going up again soon... to 37 cents this time. I'm certainly not paying more money for worse service. I think it's time to seriously consider online bill payment and sending packages by UPS instead of US Mail. | private feedback | (0) public comments Tuesday, January 08, 2002 WOW! At MacWorld San Francisco yesterday, the CEO of Apple announced a redesign of the iMac. It's fierce! Check it out at Apple.com. Sorry all you boring "beige box" PC users. You WISH you were this cool. *big cute grin* Hmmmm, otherwise a boring day at work today... if anything happens I'll write more later. | private feedback | (0) public comments Monday, January 07, 2002 Happy Monday! Quiet weekend. I pampered myself Friday night with a sauna and jacuzzi bath (if you haven't seen the pics of my apartment -- I just updated the pics of the sauna and jacuzzi this weekend). Saturday, I did some shopping with my friend Mike. Then had Mike's going away party. :-( Luckily, he's not leaving just yet. We're gonna miss you Mikey! Sunday was a super productive day... went to the gym, cleaned, did laundry, read a bit, baked, even fit in a short nap. I'm getting into this book for BookTalk, Rubyfruit Jungle by Rita Mae Brown. It's a quick read. (We're meeting on 01/14 if anyone's interested.) And, last night was the "Queer as Folk" and "Sex in The City" premieres. Both great! "Sex in The City" is funnier than I expected, I had only seen one episode before last night. Following that, I was up until 2 a.m. working out my handspring visor hot sync-ing issues. I'm happy to report that my visor is up and running once more. Tip for future reference: Don't get your palm pilot wet. ;-) Been a relatively busy day today @ work. I'm ready to take a nap but I'm going to try to force myself to go to the gym. OH! And... Mike recommended a dance song to me recently that I'm in love with. :-) "One Good Reason" by Nicole McCloud... I've had it on repeat the last few days. Check it out! | private feedback | (0) public comments Friday, January 04, 2002 I can't believe it's only a little over a month until Valentine's Day. I would never have thought about it except almost every store has Valentine's Day stuff out already. CVS, Wegman's, even a few stores on the commons. As for today, it's been really quiet at the office. I got here late (10:00) and was the only one here until noon... jammin' to the Dixie Chicks without a care in the world. :-) For lunch, I delivered a belated Christmas present and caught up with my friend Lori. She told me a bunch of Keelinn stories. Keelinn is her girlfriend Darlene's granddaughter, who I adore. (Anyone that has ever met Keelinn loves her.) I'll spare you the stories, I really could go on and on. She turned 4 today, so she's the birthday princess. And it's Darlene's birthday tomorrow! Hmmm, as for the rest of my day, I'll probably hit the gym after work and then watch my normal Friday night shows... Ellen and Reba. :-) And then call it an early night. I gotta get myself back on a normal sleep schedule. Lately, I have the worst time waking up in the morning. | private feedback | (0) public comments Thursday, January 03, 2002 Today's lesson: "Why is Greenland considered an island while Australia is considered a continent and NOT an island?" I had lunch with friends today and somehow we got on the topic of islands and continents because one of my lunch companions is from Iceland and had just spent the holidays there. After lunch, my friend Jamie did research on the internet and forwarded us this link... ISLAND VS. CONTINENT. A very interesting answer that has to do with culture, geology, and a few other differences... Obviously, we're not the only ones who wondered. :-) I love learning something new, and sharing it. Enjoy! | private feedback | (0) public comments Wednesday, January 02, 2002 Well, it's back to work... already had one meeting this morning that went longer than expected. Ugh. Now I'm consumed with trying to figure out how to archive my blogs (all these little text items you see on my main page every so often). When I get to a breaking point, I am going to grab lunch, I haven't eaten anything yet today. Last night, I finished putting together the "pics" page... and included more pictures. Check that out and let me know what you think. I will use that style for all my secondary pages and get them posted in short order. | private feedback | (0) public comments Tuesday, January 01, 2002 HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope you all had as good a time wrapping up 2001 as I did. Yesterday, I had lunch with two friends and their guests from NYC, then got ready for dinner with some of my newest friends at John Thomas Steakhouse, followed by dancing at the Common Ground. Almost everyone I knew in Ithaca was out. When midnight came around and people were kissing and greeting eachother, I realized just how lucky I have been... to have so many great people in my life. Though I'm sorry to see 2001 go, I'm also excited about the prospect of a whole new year... and a fresh start. I asked a bunch of folks what their resolutions were... I got mostly blank stares. Does anyone do this anymore? That was so 1990's, right? heheh. I am going to make an effort to stop swearing. And if anyone knows the Baby Gap story they'll know why. :-) Let's just say it involves me not being able to find a plain pair of jeans while shopping for my nephew this Christmas. And... very loudly saying, "How does one find a pair of *insert nasty word* jeans around here!?" I educated at least one child that afternoon. Here's to a happy and healthy 2002! | private feedback | (0) public comments |
